Evan M. Johnston

Graduate Assistant, Doctoral Student

Teaching and Learning

Evan is a doctoral candidate whose dissertation and work focus squarely on the role that race, gender, and dis/ability play in the construction of teacher, parent, and student narratives of student behavior, potential, and ability to succeed within and beyond schools. He also is pursuing a secondary research passion into how fandom spaces at large comic book and pop culture conventions create unique opportunities to expand how people learn and think about their own identities. At the NYU Metro Center, he has published a primer on Culturally Responsive Education and currently serves as the Managing Editor of its flagship publication: Voices in Urban Education.
