Research Description/Bio:
Berta is a Ph.D. student in the Applied Psychology department. She is a recipient of the IES-PIRT Fellowship (2021–25) and an NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship semi-Finalist (2026). Berta’s research explores how education systems and governments can become more responsive to family needs and provide equitable access to educational opportunity by examining caregiver behavior, equity in systems of access, and the effectiveness of programs in promoting high-quality education. She draws from frameworks and evidence in a variety of disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, economics, and public policy, and leverages her training in causal inference, psychometrics, and qualitative research. Berta has supported partnered research projects with several education systems and organizations, such as the New York City Public Schools, the Mendoza Department of Education (in Argentina), and the Robin Hood Foundation. Upon graduation, she aims to support evidence-based policy changes that enhance equity and student success in educational systems around the globe. Berta holds a master’s degree in Statistics, Measurement, and Assessments from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree in economics and international affairs from Northeastern University.
