Undergraduate Internships (MCC-UE 1100)
To be eligible for the Media, Culture and Communication Internship course (MCC-UE 1100) you must:
- Be an undergraduate with a declared major in Media, Culture, and Communication
- Be in good academic standing with the department and university (no academic or disciplinary action on record)
- Be of junior or senior standing (64+ earned credits)
- Not have completed all 6* of the allowed MCC internship credits (see NYU-LA exception note below)
Credit Allocation
The Media, Culture and Communication internship course is optional, not required. If you choose to complete an internship for credit, the credit can count toward electives in the major (specialization electives) or unrestricted electives.
Undergraduate students may earn a maximum of 6 academic credits through MCC-UE 1100 (with a maximum of 4 credits per semester). Internships are offered for either two credits or four credits and graded on 4-point scale (A, B+, C-, etc.). You can choose to take the course pass/fail, however, it can then only count as an Unrestricted Elective—it will not count towards your major.
*NYU-Los Angeles Exception
Students enrolled in the NODEP-UA 9982 Experiential Learning Seminar at the NYU-LA campus can exceed the MCC 6-credit internship limit to accommodate the required 4-credit course at NYU-LA. This raises the maximum credits to 8. Internship credits must be applied to professional or unrestricted electives only.
Graduate Internships (MCC-GE 2235)
To be eligible for the Media, Culture and Communication Internship you must:
- Be a second-year graduate student in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication.
- Be in good academic standing with the university (no academic or disciplinary action on record).
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- We also recommend that you have taken at least one course in the MA program; or take a course concurrently with the internship.
Credit Allocation
The graduate Media, Culture and Communication internship course is optional, not required. If you choose to complete an internship for credit, the credit will count toward ELECTIVES under your degree requirements.
Graduate students may earn a maximum of 4 internship credits towards their degree.
