Professor Mike Richmond's wealth of experience and world presence have enriched NYU's Jazz program for over thirty years. Richmond has represented the United States as a guest lecturer at the International Symposium on Jazz Pedagogy in Mulhouse, France. Professor Richmond was the recipient of the NYU Esteemed Faculty Award (1992) and the Department of Music and Performing Arts Profession's Teacher of the Year award (1994). His book Modern Walking Bass Technique (Ped Xing Music) is used worldwide as one of the leading texts on jazz bass technique.
He has won Grammy Awards with Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, and the Philadelphia Orchestra and has been featured on over 300 recordings (16 solo).
