Dr. Claire Pelofi is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Music Technology program at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science and a Master's degree in Cognitive Science from École Normale Supérieure in Paris, alongside formal training as a violin performer and graduate study in philosophy and logic.
Dr. Pelofi's research investigates the neuro-computational processes underlying music perception, combining computational modeling of music with EEG and MEG neural decoding and the development of human-computer and brain-computer interfaces. She has built widely used open-source tools, including a Python interface to the IDyOM model of musical expectation and an audio-based model of musical tension, and developed CHILLER, a portable interface for real-time measurement of music-induced emotion. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, ASCAP, and industry collaborations including Logitech. She is actively involved in the Tellrudie Neuromorphic AI workshop where she served as group leader and general chair for the last 6 years. She has taught at New York University, Barnard College at Columbia University, and IRCAM's ATIAM program in Paris, and has mentored more than twenty students from the undergraduate through postdoctoral levels. She served as topic group leader and later general chair of the Telluride Neuromorphic Engineering and Cognition Workshop.
Prior to joining the NYU Steinhardt faculty, Dr. Pelofi served as a Research Scientist and lead scientist at the Center for Language, Music and Emotion (CLaME), an international research venture supported by the Psychology Department at New York University. "
