Ashley Thaxton-Stevenson (she/her) is a dynamic theatre maker and educator whose work is deeply influenced by her love of storytelling, multiracial identity, and her roots in the foothills of Southern California. As a director, dramaturg, and performer, Ashley excels in new play development, interview-based theatre, and innovative interpretations of Shakespeare, with a special focus on creating engaging works with and for young audiences. A Core Ensemble Member of the Verbatim Performance Lab and Ensemble Member of Spellbound Theatre, Ashley is committed to community-driven theatre practice and transformative storytelling.
As an educator, Ashley is dedicated to empowering youth and emerging artists by fostering creative practices that emphasize collaboration, radical inclusivity, and generosity. She serves as the co-director of YouthWorks at BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, where she cultivates artistic exploration for artists ages 8-18. An Adjunct Faculty Member at NYU’s Program in Educational Theatre, honored with a Spring 2021 USG Departmental Award, she also teaches at Adelphi University’s Theatre Department, and is a Faculty Member and Community Engagement Coordinator with the award-winning Fiasco Theater.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Ashley finds joy in reading novels, crafting meticulous spreadsheets, and spirited dance parties with her preschooler and spouse, celebrating the vibrant intersections of learning, creativity, and intergenerational exchanges in her life.
