Performing Arts Administration Study Abroad 2023 - London, UK

Posted

During our 2023 spring break, students in the Performing Arts Administration, Visual Arts Administration, Media Culture and Communication, and Arts Education programs traveled to London to participate in the Creative and Cultural Industries in the US and UK course.

During the seven-day experience, students explored the London arts scene through lectures delivered by local experts and academics, visited world-renowned cultural organizations, and met with experienced cultural leaders. In addition, students visited the British Museum, Tate Britain, Somerset House, Cockpit Art Holborn, and the Southbank Center.  During the course, students were introduced to and discussed many essential arts administration issues led by faculty from Goldsmiths, University of London and speakers from the Arts Council England and the British Council. Topics explored included funding, accessibility, audience development, attitudes toward the arts, equity, the role of the artist in society, heritage preservation, cultural relations and diplomacy, cultural tourism, and the creative industries. Students also attended an informative panel with PAA and VAA alumni who are living and working in the UK. The group also participated in an immersive theater performance of Punkdrunk’s “The Burnt City.”
