Spotify is launching a new way to curate and listen to music – and it has an NYU Steinhardt voice! Music Business alumnus Xavier Jernigan (MA '04), Director and Head of Cultural Partnerships at Spotify, is also the voice of the recently launched feature DJ. Spotify describes the new component as “A personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you.”
DJ will deliver an individualized lineup of music alongside commentary about specific tracks. Spotify chose the popular Xavier Jernigan, who also serves as a Steinhardt Alumni Advisory Board Member, as the first voice to launch DJ. The company explained, “To create the voice model for the DJ, we partnered with our own Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan. Previously, X served as one of the hosts on Spotify’s first morning show, The Get Up. His personality and voice resonated with our listeners and resulted in a loyal following for the podcast.”
Congratulations to Xavier on his expanded presence on Spotify! To hear him on your soundtrack, learn to activate the DJ feature on Spotify’s official announcement.
