In September, members of NYU Steinhardt’s Music and Audio Research Laboratory (MARL) made a major impact at the International Society for Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) Conference in Daejeon, Korea—the leading global gathering for music technology, machine listening, and music information retrieval.

MARL showcased groundbreaking research through featured papers, talks, and posters, with several members receiving top honors. Doctoral students Richa Namballa and Yi Wu earned Outstanding Reviewer Mentions, and PhD candidate Giovana Morais was elected to a two-year term as the student representative on the ISMIR Board. Most notably, a publication by MARL Director Juan Pablo Bello and Professor Brian McFee was recognized as runner-up for the prestigious 10-Year Test-of-Time Award.
