SLP Program Jumps to #21 on U.S. News & World Report List

NYU Steinhardt’s Master’s Program in Speech-Language Pathology is now ranked #21 on the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 list of Best Speech-Language Pathology Programs in the country, up from #38 last year.

“This leap in our U.S. News ranking is thrilling,” says Maria Grigos, professor and chair of CSD. “As an entire department, we’ve been doing such amazing work for so many years, so we are all very appreciative of the recognition that this ranking symbolizes.”

One of the key factors to contributed to this rise in ranking is the investment that the school and the university have made in the department’s faculty over the years.

“We are proud to have some incredible faculty who are leaders in their areas of research and clinical practice, which contributes to our external funding, the wide dissemination of published work, and our presence at national and international conferences and other professional convenings,” says Grigos.

Another important factor is the enhancement of the SLP program’s curriculum to include more culturally responsive practices and research.

“NYU Steinhardt aims to be a leader in bringing more diversity to a historically homogenous field,” says Grigos. “This includes the way that we teach, but it also means attracting faculty and students who bring new and different life experience, backgrounds, and perspectives to our profession. We want future students to be able to see themselves not only in the industry, but here at NYU Steinhardt as well.”

NYU Steinhardt shares its #21 ranking in a tie with Arizona State University; Pennsylvania State University—University Park; Teachers College, Columbia University; Temple University; University of Colorado—Boulder; University of Nebraska—Lincoln; and University of Texas—Dallas.
