Shuling Guo (b. 1986, Chao’an, China) is a painter who lives and works in Philadelphia. Her work explores the body, memory, and the passage of time through a visual language in which botanical forms, bodily forms, and religious imagery converge. Drawing on memories of her childhood in the Chaoshan region of southern China as well as experiences of motherhood, loss, and migration, her paintings consider transformation, fragility, and the cycles of birth, growth, aging, and death. Guo received her B.A. from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, in 2010 and moved to the United States in 2019. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and China and is held in the collection of the Art Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.
