ASD Nest Support Project team members Alexis Betancourt-Hart, Lauren Melissa Ellzey, and Molly Perez presented at the CUNY Neurodiversity Conference on Friday, March 18th. Their session, titled “One Size Fits One: Intersectionality and Autistic K-12 Inclusion” unpacked the findings of a series of intersectional interviews conducted by the ASD Nest Support Project at NYU Metro Center.
The interviews focused on the experiences of autistic self-advocates, autistic professionals, and allistic disabled professionals across lines of difference, emphasizing the impact of K-12 institutions upon multiply-marginalized individuals. Through anecdotes and audio/visual sharing, the presentation highlighted the lived experiences and proposed action items emphasized by the seven interviewees. In all, the presentation served to broaden and deepen the conversation around siloed versus intersectional inclusion, especially as it concerns race, gender, sexuality, and neurodivergence.
