As AI becomes embedded in K-5 classrooms, whose cultures do these systems center? Who gets positioned as algorithmic co-creators versus compliant users?
This Equity Now 2026 Pre-Conference Webinar equips educators to evaluate digital citizenship and AI literacy curricula through an equity-centered lens grounded in NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-SE), Sustainable Libraries practices, and LibraryReady.AI.
Led by educator Claire Mitchell, this Equity Now 2026 Pre-Conference Session will provide firsthand analysis of K-5 curricula (Common Sense Media, MIT Day of AI). Webinar participants will have the opportunity to apply CR-SE evaluation criteria to identify where the curricula prioritizes compliance over student agency, erasure over cultural affirmation, and technical skills over critical consciousness. This foundational work informs equity practice across all grade levels.
Attendees can expect to gain a practical equity analysis framework, sample curriculum evaluations, and protocols to pilot in their districts.
