Youth in Action: Leveraging Policy and Practice to Advance Liberatory Education (2026)

Youth in Action: Leveraging Policy and Practice to Advance Liberatory Education (Room 909)

Culturally Responsive Systems Track

Presenters: Dr. Tristian M. Cox , Dr. Danielle Mastrogiovanni, Daneisha Shaw, & Plainfield High School Students

This session highlights how youth-led action research (YPAR) can be a catalyst for systemic change in schools and districts. Participants will hear directly from students who engaged in projects designed to name and challenge inequities through culturally responsive, socially equitable, and antiracist practices. The session will explore concrete strategies for leveraging state, district, and local policies to shift classroom practices and outcomes for students on the margins. Attendees will engage in examining the tools and frameworks used by both students and educators to navigate and influence policy, creating actionable insights for applying these strategies in their own contexts.
