Universal Design for Learning: A Pathway Forward to dismantle Ableism and Anti- Blackness in Early Childhood Classrooms

To teach participants about the current pedagogical trends and methods in special education. Introduce the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a counter to the most common approaches used in special education, and a pedagogy of Black Liberation and Disability Justice to counter the methods of accommodation and modifications that treat Black students with disabilities as an afterthought. Schools can work for all students, but our Black and Brown students with disabilities can only thrive in an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. All workshop participants will learn how to use the language of UDL and Black Liberation to advocate for their Black students. During the workshop we will work to create universally designed lessons for early childhood classrooms.
