Then and Now: Race, Trauma, and the Struggle for Equity in Education
In this workshop, participants will broaden their knowledge about historical narratives of educational and social policies in the US, and how they intertwine with the marginalization of racial groups throughout history. These policies have lasting educational, health, economic, and social implications, leading to generations of communities enduring stress and trauma.
Participants will examine Trauma Informed Teaching strategies that can strengthen educators' personal understanding and awareness and be utilized to counteract effects of racial discrimination, stress, and intergenerational trauma in our school communities.
Participants will then produce an action plan to integrate the strategies in their classroom or school to transform their daily practice and advance equitable and inclusive support for students and families, enhancing their ability to learn and engage in the classroom and beyond.
