Taking a Liberatory Approach To System Improvement

In this session, we will explore practical strategies and best practices for designing and implementing improvement processes that acknowledge and address both student experiences and structural barriers. Most change processes start with the solution in mind, while missing opportunities to understand challenges. We will explore an adapted continuous improvement process informed by liberatory concepts and strategies. We will consider new ways to design for complex change. Designed for school and district teams, session participants will explore applying new strategies to their current dilemmas. The learning objectives include the following:

  • Demystify some strategies for defining and understanding "equity" within your educational context.
  • Explore some best practices for creating and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Identify some tools and resources for shifting the conditions that facilitate inequities.
