R.I.S.E. Forward: Speak. Act. Transform – Engaging Students to Drive School-wide Change- (Room 912)
Culturally Responsive Systems Track
Presenters: Sanyogita Padhye-Basu & Dr. Hitisha Patel
The R.I.S.E. (Respect, Include, Support, Empower) framework is a student-led initiative that empowers students to speak up, challenge bias, and shape dialogue and practices throughout the school. When students feel seen, heard, and valued, they are inspired to lead.
This session will guide school leaders in fostering a culturally responsive culture and climate by creating authentic opportunities for students to lead and shape learning experiences. School leaders will learn how a district successfully engaged six secondary schools in using student leadership teams to implement R.I.S.E., gaining practical strategies to model equity, amplify student voice, and foster inclusive practices that drive measurable improvements in student engagement, belonging, and school culture.
Through hands-on activities and illustrative student projects, participants will receive a toolkit to design student-led projects that influence classroom practices, strengthen school culture, and provide adaptable strategies to promote systemic, school-wide change.
