Reimagining Culturally Responsive Education Through AsianCrit (Room 909)
Culturally Responsive Practices Track
Presenters: Julianne Park
This workshop introduces an expanded CRSE framework incorporating two AsianCrit tenets: Asianization and Story, Theory, and Praxis. Participants will unpack how racialized narratives such as the model minority myth and perpetual foreigner stereotypes shape the schooling experiences and curricular invisibility of Asian American students. Building on this foundation, we will examine how these tenets apply to practical classroom contexts. Educators will collaboratively explore the city’s current CRSE framework, identify gaps in Asian American representation, and exchange actionable strategies to incorporate counter-narratives and identity-affirming content into existing lessons. By the end of the session, attendees will be better prepared to create a truly inclusive learning environment that honors the diverse stories and experiences of all students.
