PRE Research Brief Series: Responsive and Sustaining Research Practices

Participatory Action Research (PAR) poses several advantages over traditional research approaches. Through the use of responsive and sustaining data collection practices, PAR has the potential to create more meaningful research findings that are grounded in the knowledge and experiences of those being researched. Secondly, PAR focuses on community engagement and empowerment, uplifting and prioritizing the voices of those typically silenced, ignored, and marginalized. This can lead to more sustainable and effective solutions to identifying and addressing social problems through research, policy and practice. Additionally, PAR challenges power imbalances in research and promotes social justice by valuing the knowledge and experiences of all participants.
