Nurturing Al-Nafs: Centering Black and Queer Muslims in a dialogue on Intersectional Identity Development in U.S. Schools
This session will examine intersectional identity development of marginalized youth in U.S. schools. By looking at the experience of of Black and/or Queer Muslims in American schools through a particular lens, this session will share and unpack the findings from focus group interviews that explored how various political events and organizational school structures impacted the self-actualization of young people nationwide. This session will provide three recommendations for educators to consider in the informal and formal actions in school settings that can support the long-term development and livelihood of marginalized youth holding intersectional identities.
