Moving Past "Good" and "Bad" Schools with Holistic School Quality Measurement

By measuring a wide array of school quality indicators, the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) complicates racialized notions of “good” and “bad” schools. MCIEA's data collection draws heavily from student and teacher voice and measures of student sense of belonging, cultural responsiveness in curriculum, and appreciation for diversity and results in informed community engagement in school improvement. Participants will leave this session with concrete plans for using MCIEA's free, open-sourced data collection methods and/or adapting MCIEA's framework for use in their schools.
