The New York State Statewide Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (RBERN), funded by the NYS Education Department’s Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages, supports the education of English Language Learners (ELLs) and world language students. Broadly, RBERNs are funded to promote high academic achievement for ELLs from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds by developing the skills, knowledge, and competencies of educators, parents, and local communities. Specifically, the Statewide RBERN supports districts and schools statewide in their implementation of programs for ELLs and world language students with technical assistance, professional development, resource materials, and information to strengthen instruction for students learning English as a new language and students of world languages.
Mission
The Statewide RBERN’s mission is to collaborate, coordinate, and provide leadership to the Regional RBERNs to ensure that all districts and schools receive consistent, evidence-based guidance on effective instructional practices and language acquisition.
Vision
The vision of the NYS Statewide RBERN is to build a community of multilingual learners which enables English Language Learners and world language students to reach their full potential, become life-long learners, and successfully contribute to an ever-changing global society. This work is guided by the New York State Education Department Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages.
