Equitable Education: Prioritizing Equity with Data-Driven Approaches

Garland Independent School District (GISD) has made significant strides towards achieving equity in education since the 1970 Federal Desegregation Order. The GISD Equity Task Force was established to ensure that all students have equal access to educational opportunities, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. In this workshop, we will examine the actions taken by GISD to conform with the order, including the establishment of the GISD Equity Task Force and the development of board policies aimed at promoting equity and inclusion in the district. We will also explore the impact of these initiatives on student achievement and discuss future steps that GISD plans to take to continue promoting equity in education.
