Education for Peace, Recovery, and Resilience: A Participatory Community Approach- (Room 903)
Culturally Responsive Systems & Practices Track
Presenters: Sakil Malik
This workshop is designed to support leaders to build culturally responsive systems that honor the identities and strengths of marginalized students. Drawing on global community-centered models, the session demonstrates how schools can shift from working on communities to working with them through shared decision-making and trauma-aware supports.
Participants will learn to redesign policies, strengthen school climate, and create structures where youth voice guides real decisions. We will explore improving discipline systems, elevating family partnerships, and building diverse hiring pipelines. Using reflective tools and collaborative activities, attendees will identify systemic barriers and co-create responsive solutions tailored to their specific school contexts. Each participant will leave with a Culturally Responsive Systems Action Plan and a resource packet to immediately advance equity and belonging in their community.
