Dismantling Deficit Data: Build Equity-Centered Evaluation Systems (Room 910)
Culturally Responsive Systems Track
Presenters: Myra Hellerstein
This training equips leaders to design evaluation systems that advance equity and disrupt deficit-based narratives. Participants will learn a step-by-step process for creating culturally responsive, strengths-based evaluation plans grounded in community priorities and youth voice rather than mere compliance. The session covers developing equity-centered logic models, selecting culturally sustaining indicators, and implementing low-burden, affirming data collection strategies. Through guided activities, attendees will build their own evaluation plans and apply an equity lens to real-world measurement challenges. Participants will leave with tools such as a responsive evaluation template, an indicator bank, and an equity reflection checklist to help build systems that affirm student brilliance and drive transformational change.
