Co-Creating Learning Communities: Partnering with Youth in Culturally Responsive Ways

Co-Creating Learning Communities: Partnering with Youth in Culturally Responsive Ways (Room 905)

Whole Child Connection’s Youth Leadership Council is concerned about the future of education in our country and the incredible challenges educators and students are facing. We believe that authentic educator-student (adult-youth) partnerships are key to creating affirming environments, meaningful experiences and powerful learning communities. This student-developed workshop will be facilitated by two Whole Child Connection youth leaders. In this interactive session, participants will: explore tips on how to partner with students/youth to uplift student voice, share power and co-create culturally responsive learning communities; consider the idea of brave verses safe spaces; and reflect on the importance of integrating SEL (Social Emotional Learning) and Culturally Responsive practices to create a sense of belonging and dignity for all. Participants will leave with youth-created resources including a tip sheet and suggested activities, strategies and practices.
