Abolitionist School Social Work
The policing and surveillance of black bodies have followed our children into schools, further exacerbating racial trauma and the history of oppression for black communities within the United States. This systemic experience is designed to prevent black communities from having fair opportunities to succeed. School social workers can disrupt these systems by adopting abolition praxis. Participants will leave this session understanding the impact of anti-black United States policies on school systems and its connection to the school to prison pipeline and learn the tenets of an abolitionist social work praxis.
