The Aftermath, Moving Forward! (Room 908)
Systemic racism can lead to racial trauma, which is the emotional or physical response to experiencing or witnessing racism, discrimination, or racially charged violence. Racial trauma can have several negative impacts on not only our children but adults and communities as well and at times be intergenerational! The truth is that we are a traumatized nation–a traumatized world. Trauma gives rise to more trauma. It’s cyclical and will continue to cycle until we are collectively much more deliberate about disrupting the cycles. In this session, we will explore the effects of trauma and how we can take the first steps to not only healing ourselves but reaching out to others. We will practice some mindfulness and you will walk away with a toolbox of strategies and resources to help with this process.
