Advancing Equity Practices for Multilingual Learners
This session informs a strong anti-oppressive advocacy stance for multilingual learners. Equitable education for young people classified as English Language Learners requires a multifaceted vision for change. The session will focus on the school policies and practices that support an environment of belonging for ELLs and be conducive to equitable opportunities. The panelists are members of the NYS Statewide Language RBERN (Regional Bilingual Education Regional Network) where they address issues of equity for multilingual learners at many levels. Each panelist will present on the challenges and. the justice-focused next steps to creating humanizing educational environments for multilingual learners in the following areas: policy, leadership, school transformation, instruction, and family engagement.
