Teaching and learning are at the center of our work environment, as well as our research initiatives. We are committed to the highest standards of evidence and scholarship and to ensuring that our studies contribute to stronger education policies and practices.

To uphold these values and our other guiding principles, the Research Alliance seeks staff and collaborators who combine experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods with a deep knowledge of the concerns of NYC’s students, teachers, administrators, policymakers, and parents.

We hire from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, including education, economics, statistics, sociology, psychology, communications, public policy, and other social and applied sciences. We recruit individuals who have worked as policy analysts, program evaluators, and field researchers as well as those who have served as administrators, teachers, and public officials. The ideal Research Alliance staff member has training and experience in multiple disciplines.

Given that our work focuses on one of the most diverse school systems in one of the most diverse cities in the world, we strongly value working with individuals of varying backgrounds, life experiences, and personal viewpoints.

We encourage and support professional development. The Research Alliance provides an outstanding environment to develop and hone skills—through our many research projects, opportunities to write reports and present findings, and through a variety of continuing education opportunities at New York University. We nurture the development of the next generation of education researchers by hiring graduate and undergraduate research assistants and interns from NYU and other universities, as well as recent graduates. More importantly, we are deeply committed to building project teams that maximize productivity while also providing opportunities to develop skills, experience and knowledge.

We believe that a collaborative, thoughtful work environment where diversity and continuous learning are highly valued will help ensure that our contribution to improving NYC’s public schools is greater than the sum of our individual roles and expertise.
