NYU Peace Research and Education Program joins the Institute of Human Development and Social Change

Posted

We are thrilled to welcome the Peace Research and Education Program (PREP) as the newest affiliate in the Institute of Human Development and Social Chance (IHDSC) network!

Led by director Dr. Thomas Hill and situated within NYU’s School of Professional Studies and the Center for Global Affairs, PREP is the institute’s first collaborative partnership from the School of Professional Studies. It joins IHDSC’s long standing and dynamic collaboration of NYU schools with Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; Faculty of Arts and Science; and Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

PREP supports the activation of local networks of peacebuilders by working at the intersection of higher education and peacebuilding. PREP believes people are resilient and have the capacity to build more peaceful communities. With its university and NGO affiliates in Iraq, Colombia, Libya and Kuwait, PREP aims to give support to academic institutions and local researchers who are in the process of rebuilding the social fabric of their communities in the wake of years of violent conflict. PREP celebrated its fifth anniversary this past February and is eager to share its work more widely as an affiliate of the IHDSC community.

“We are so delighted to welcome PREP, Thomas Hill, and the team into the IHDSC community and to officially partner with the School of Professional Studies” said Dr. Erin Godfrey, Director of IHDSC and Associate Professor of Applied Psychology. “PREP adds to IHDSC’s growing portfolio of global research with its partnerships in Iraq, Colombia, Libya and Kuwait and is an example of the power of community-driven work that centers community voice and priorities.”

“Joining IHDSC is a great opportunity for PREP and our partners in all the places where we work. Building and sustaining peace is such a natural but often unseen part of the work of higher education institutions and community-based researchers. It is gratifying to know that being part of the dynamic IHDSC network will give PREP’s work greater visibility in a way that hopefully will help IHDSC to grow in new directions.”
