New Video on Building Capacity for Equitable CS Instruction

Research Alliance teams presented new findings from our independent evaluation of NYC’s Computer Science for All initiative at the 2021 SIGCSE Technical Symposium. The following resource is now available:

“Bridging Professional Development to Practice: Using School Support Visits to Build Teacher Confidence in Delivering Equitable CS Instruction” Video Presentation-  A key strategy of CS4All is the district-wide effort to build teachers’ capacity to offer CS. This effort has included a variety of in-service professional development opportunities for teachers, along with follow-up school support visits (SSVs) designed to reinforce learning from the PD and provide feedback to teachers and school leaders about the implementation of CS at their school. In this presentation, Kathryn Hill and Cheri Fancsali examine the relationship between receiving a SSV and teachers’ confidence in their ability to deliver equitable, high-quality CS instruction. The findings highlight the promise of SSVs, especially among teachers who were initially struggling.
