Dr. Joseph Cimpian and NYU doctoral student, Jo R. King, published a paper in Science titled “An institution-level analysis of gender gaps in STEM over time” focusing on US bachelor's degrees awarded from 2002 to 2022. Their study reveals that the substantial gender gap in physics, engineering, and computer science (PECS) has narrowed at selective institutions serving students with high math SAT scores. However they also found that the gender gap widened at less selective universities, suggesting targeted interventions at institutions are crucial, especially for underrepresented women of color.
