Efficacy of Treatment for Childhood Speech Sound Disorder

Closeup of black girl with hearing aid

A paper recently published in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research represents a collaboration between CSD and PRIISM. This study by Dr. McAllister, CSD colleagues, and PRIISM faculty Dr. Marc Scott focuses on the efficacy of treatment for childhood speech sound disorder enhanced with ultrasound biofeedback. They collaborated with Dr. Scott to use machine learning techniques to identify different trajectories of progress over the course of treatment. The machine learning model supported clinical intuition in finding that learners with the lowest accuracy at baseline tend to derive the greatest benefit from technology-enhanced treatment.
