Burglary Crimes in Manhattan in 2020

A3SR Student Visualization Competition Runner Up, Ziyang Fu

Every few months, PRIISM runs a student visualization competition to display and highlight the talents of the Applied Statistics for Social Science Research (A3SR) graduate students.

Ziyang Fu is the runner up of the second student visualization competition with a visualization that examines the number of crimes that happened in the Manhattan borough in 2020. It emphasizes crimes, specifically burglary, in relation to the median household income data in 2019 inflation-adjusted dollars by census tracts. The number of burglaries aggregated at the neighborhood level. Many of the burglaries happened in lower Manhattan, specifically East Village and Battery Park areas, where people tend to earn a relatively higher income than people living in East Harlem and Chinatown.
