In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, the ASD Nest Support Project led a social media campaign in order to elevate the true experts, autistic individuals. The campaign focuses on shifting the narrative from awareness to acceptance with the ultimate goal of authentic inclusion and belonging. The project created a video to launch the campaign, shared articles and blogs from autistic authors, and has autistic advocates taking over Instagram weekly to share their perspective on Autism Acceptance and answer questions. The ASD Nest Support Project recently partnered with Sonoma St. University to provide professional development aimed at supporting Autistic young adults during their summer internship experience with NASA. The professional development was led by Alexis Betancourt-Hart, ED.M, who had the honor to present to over 100 NASA engineers, scientists and astronauts, as well as faculty and staff from Sonoma St. University, who will be supporting Autistic young adults remotely this coming summer as part of an internship program through NASA. The professional development focused on providing theoretical frameworks of Autism, implications for best practices, and concrete strategies to support students during this unique experience.
