Current Occupational Therapy Students

When do I officially graduate?

Degrees are officially conferred three times per year: January, May, and September. For exact graduation deadlines and dates, please visit the Office of the University Registrar's website or call (212) 998-4800.

What steps must I take to graduate?

Please see the appendices in your Department of Occupational Therapy Academic Manual for the Graduation Clearance Checklist. You must apply for graduation through Albert. Please visit the Office of the University Registrar's website or call (212) 998-4800 for graduation deadlines and other pertinent information. 

May I sit for the NBCOT certification exam before my degree is conferred?

Students must wait until after their degrees have been conferred before applying to sit for the NBCOT exam, meaning that your graduation date must be posted to your final official transcript. View more information about applying for graduationThe Department of Occupational Therapy is unable to process NBCOT’s Degree Verification Forms (DVF).

How do I request an official transcript l?

The Department of Occupational Therapy is unable to request a transcript on your behalf. You must visit the Office of the University Registrar's website or call (212) 998-4800.

Where can I request information or additional documents to help complete my licensure form?

If you need specific information or documents from the Occupational Therapy Department, please complete the Licensure Data Form and email it to Erin Friar.

If you need your transcript, please contact the Registrar's Office.

Will I be able to work before I take the NBCOT exam?

Yes, you will be eligible in NY, NJ, and several other states for a temporary license/limited permit. Eligibility and requirements vary between states. Please refer to the individual state licensure boards for information about obtaining a temporary license/limited permit.

You will need to have a job offer to get a limited permit in NY or NJ.

How do I get a limited permit/temporary license?

For NY, please refer to this website or call 518-474-3817 x100 to obtain a limited permit. For NJ, please refer to this website or call 973-504-6570 to obtain a limited permit. Please refer to the individual state licensure boards for more information about obtaining a temporary license/limited permit.

How do I request a school seal?

Please contact Erin Friar for assistance in acquiring the NYU School Seal.

What is the procedure for requesting syllabi/course outlines?

Students must retain all of their course outlines as they may be required to produce them when seeking licensure or employment in some states, foreign countries, or when pursuing further degrees.

In the event that you are unable to locate these documents, please contact Erin Friar for assistance. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing.

Where do I submit my licensure forms?

Please submit your forms to Erin Friar for processing.

How long is the licensure process?

Please check with the state's professional licensing authority or board.

Do you provide assistance to students in preparing resumes and cover letters?

Assistance is available through the NYU Wasserman Student Center for Career Development.
