How to Apply & Financial Aid
In order to be considered for admission to this program, you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
As regulated by the New York State Education Department, you must have the following credits prior to enrollment:
- 36 semester hours in studio art and art history (a maximum of 12 hours can be in art history)
- 3 semester hours of a language other than English (American Sign Language is acceptable)

If any of these requirements are not fulfilled, you will have to take the necessary courses during your first year of graduate study, in addition to the courses required for the master’s degree. This prerequisite coursework will not count towards the master’s degree.
We review all applications individually and holistically, but our expectation is that successful candidates for admission to any NYU Steinhardt MA program in teacher education will have a minimum 3.0 undergraduate grade point average.
How to Apply
The next application deadline is February 1 for Fall admission only.
All applications must be submitted to NYU Steinhardt's Office of Graduate Admissions. Please follow the specific instructions outlined in the Graduate Admissions Application Guide for this program to complete your online application..
To be eligible for NYU Steinhardt scholarships, you must file a FAFSA application by February 1 for fall enrollment.
The Art + Education Programs offer merit and need-based scholarships. In order to be eligible for any financial aid you MUST complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
You can complete the FAFSA form online. The University's institution code is 002785.
Deadlines: Submit your FAFSA by February 1 for Rall enrollment. Do not wait to be accepted. You can use tax forms from the previous tax year to submit.
