The NYS Statewide Language Regional Bilingual Educational Resource Network (RBERN) at NYU
The NYU Steinhardt Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transforming of Schools administers the NYS Language Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (Language RBERN) funded by the New York State Education Department Office of Bilingual Education and Foreign Language Studies.
The Language RBERN at NYU (formerly known as the Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Center - BETAC) provides support for the education of Limited English Proficient/English Language Learners (LEP/ELLs) and foreign language students in districts and schools statewide by offering technical assistance, professional development, resource materials, and the dissemination of information that strengthens the teaching and learning of English as a second language, students’ native language, and languages other than English.
As part of the NYS Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network, the focus of the Language RBERN is to promote high academic achievement for LEP/ELLs from various languages and cultural backgrounds. In order to support the commitment of the New York State Education Department to higher standards for all students through the Commissioner’s Race to the Top initiatives and Regents Reform Agenda, the Language RBERN aims to develop and strengthen the skills, knowledge, and competencies of educators, parents, and local communities.
