Located in New York's East Village, the Department of Art and Art Professions serves as a vibrant site for artistic experimentation and intellectual exchange. The department draws upon a faculty of acclaimed artists, scholars, and critics. We offer programs and courses that integrate technical skills with theoretical understanding within the context of a world-class university setting.
BFA and MFA programs in studio art are interdisciplinary and combine cultural theory courses with facilities in painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, computer art and design, video, ceramics, metalsmithing, and installation. The department's MA programs include Art + Education, Visual Arts Administration, Costume Studies, and Art Therapy. New York City's galleries, museums, schools, studios, and performance spaces, from Chelsea to Brooklyn and the Lower East Side, are an integral part of NYU's campus, as are the university's vast intellectual and academic resources.
NYU Steinhardt Department of Art and Art Professions is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
