NYU Metro Center is pleased to introduce Dr. Andolyn Brown as a Senior Equity Associate. Dr. Brown joins the Center’s Innovations in Equity and Systemic Change (IESC) team with more than two decades of experience as an educator, leader, and scholar.

Andolyn is an equity-centered educator, coach, and administrator who has consistently incorporated culturally responsive and sustaining education (CRSE) practices into each of her educational roles. Whether working with community-based organizations and families to improve educational opportunities for students as an Assistant Principal in the South Bronx, enabling teachers to uncover the district-based policies, practices, and beliefs that lead to inequitable outcomes for students of color, or collaborating with school superintendents and network leaders to optimize instructional leadership, Dr. Brown has been steadfast in her efforts to promote education equity.

Andolyn’s all-encompassing commitment and passion for advancing equity in educational institutions underscores the skill set that she brings to IESC’s mission to disrupt, dismantle, and eliminate disproportionality. As a Senior Equity Associate with Innovations in Equity and Systemic Change (IESC) at the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools, Dr. Brown will continue those education justice efforts by partnering with and leading districts, schools, and educational organizations in advancing equity. Andolyn will provide training and technical assistance in a variety of key educational reform areas in districts and schools related to culturally responsive sustaining education, and leadership, capacity building, instructional practices, curriculum, family, and community engagement, among others and how each area intersects with equity, race, and culture.

IESC Co-Directors MarÍa G. Hernández & Reed Swier are excited by Dr. Brown’s deep pedagogical knowledge, school-based CR-SE expertise and leadership and the overall way in which she shows up to this work. As a unit, we are thrilled to continue to grow with her on the team and look forward to all the ways she will powerfully impact the work in our partnering spaces. Dr. Brown is the associate we have been waiting for to complement, push and complete the IESC family.

We are elated  to have Dr. Andolyn Brown join the NYU Metro Center team, especially as the Innovations in Equity and Systemic Change (IESC) team leans more fully into its vision and impact, and partners with students, parents/caregivers, educators, school districts and local communities together to implement Culturally Responsive Sustainable Equity-Based Systems that meet the needs of every student and family.
