Doctor of Physical Therapy

Financial Aid

Attending graduate school is an investment in your future and a serious commitment of time and money.  NYU Steinhardt is committed to assisting graduate applicants in the process of financing their education. To better meet the needs of our physical therapy students, a Secured Tuition Plan is in place.  Tuition and fees for the entire 133-credit, 10-semester DPT program will total $123,000 for the class entering summer 2012. This means that you will not incur annual tuition increases during your course of study. Each student must have health insurance coverage that may be obtained through a special rate student health coverage plan or may be waived if proof of other coverage is provided. In addition, APTA membership is required and costs a minimum of $85 per year for each student.

 Federal Financial Aid Application Procedures

  • Required Form -- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using FAFSA on the Web. The University's institution code is 002785.
  • Deadlines -- Submit the FAFSA by February 1 for fall/summer enrollment or November 1 for spring enrollment. Do not wait to be accepted for admission.
  •   Supplemental Applications -- Several scholarship programs require a separate application. Please see the scholarship descriptions listed below for details and deadlines.
  •   Eligibility -- Master's and advanced certificate applicants who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and eligible for federal financial aid may receive consideration for school based financial aid. Citizens of Canada and Mexico should review the detailed information below for special scholarship and loan opportunities. Citizens of other countries may be eligible for specifically developed loan programs and non-NYU sources of funding. More information may be found by clicking http://www.nyu.edu/financial.aid/international.htm. Full-time post professional (Ph.D.) doctoral applicants who submit completed applications for admission by the December 15 deadline, regardless of country of citizenship, will receive consideration for scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships.
  • Timing -- File the FAFSA by the appropriate deadline. Do not wait to be accepted for admission. Applying after the deadline will delay the processing of federal aid and student loans and result in loss of consideration for scholarships. NYU's Office of Financial Aid will begin mailing official award letters in late March for summer/fall and in early December for spring.

Departmental Financial Aid:

The Physical Therapy Department periodically announces the availability of additional financial aid resources. Students may also consult with the Scholarship and Awards Committee Chairperson, Kevin Weaver, regarding the above information.

Based on merit, need, and availibility of funds, the department selects a small number of students to receive Salant Scholars Awards.

Salant Physical Therapy Scholarship Fund

The Department, through the generosity of friends and alumni, has established a scholarship fund to assist a limited number of students during their course of study. Incoming students may be selected to receive a Salant Scholars Award which is an amount of $5,000 each year for the three years.

To apply, you must demonstrate financial need, be in good academic standing, and complete an application form that includes a financial aid profile. Notification of action will be rendered by the faculty. For further information and application form see the Scholarship and Awards Committee Chairperson.
