The Certificate program is for individuals who have completed a master's degree and are on a career path that requires new or advanced skills in the design and production, evaluation and use of instructional resources for various technologies: computer-based multimedia, network telecommunications, and television. Certificate students learn to use cognitive science and constructivist views of learning and instruction to guide this work, which may relate to many content areas, types of learners, and settings in which media and technology are used for educational purposes. Certificate students typically have a greater interest in "practice", and the applications of theory to practice, than in the research issues and activities that interest doctoral students. Certificate students assume positions as educational media producers, instructional writers, designers, and trainers in a wide array of organization types, and as educational technology administrators and coordinators in K-12 schools and higher education.
The advisor for the Certificate program is Professor Francine Shuchat Shaw
