Intensive Brass Workshop

Summer Institute for Brass Quintet & Brass Chamber Music for High School Students, College Students and Young Professionals who play trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba.

Participants can expect an intensive week of instruction at NYU, in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village, interacting with NYU's world-class brass faculty.

Instrumentalists or pre-formed brass ensembles, proficient at an advanced level, are encouraged to apply.

Housing/Meals


Participants will stay in the Hayden Hall dormitory, on Washington Square Park, ideally located at the heart of NYU's main classrooms and facilities. Bedrooms have a bed, desk, dresser and closet/armoire for each student. Rooms are air-conditioned, but they do not have telephone or Internet access. There is 24-hour security and trained Resident Assistants (RA) assigned to each floor. Participants will receive a package of bed linens with a small towel when they arrive. Participants will be assigned to live with one or two other participants from the program.

A meal plan is not included. Participants will receive more information about housing after they have been accepted to the program.

Cost


The cost for the program is $700. Meal plan and housing are not included in the program fee. The fee for housing is approximately $270 for doubles.

*Please send a DVD with two contrasting solo pieces, or of your pre-formed brass chamber ensemble. Audition Requirement: No live auditions. A DVD must accompany the application. Please perform two works, from the standard solo repertoire for your instrument, in
contrasting styles. A pre-formed ensemble may also submit a DVD. CDs will not be accepted.

New deadline: May 1, 2008; applications are currently still being accepted. Housing may not be available for later applicants. Please check with Dr. Sean Reed if you are interested in housing.

***PLEASE NOTE: Participants under the age of 18 will be required to attend activities on practically every evening during the program. Activities may include trips to the theatre, concerts and visits to important sites throughout New York City.***
