This summer, the Wallerstein Collaborative for Urban Environmental Education & Sustainability at Steinhardt completed its 13-year collaboration with NYC Audubon of Tidal Connections; a program which brings NYC students out to Gateway National Recreation Area at Plumb Beach to engage in community science and service learning during horseshoe crab mating season.  Led by NYU environmental educators and NYC Audubon field scientists, NYC 5th graders have the opportunity to discover nature in the city and learn about the importance of protecting our coastal ecosystems.
