Spring Break Study Abroad Cancellation

March 4, 2020 (Student Communication)

Dear Students,

We are writing to follow up on the University’s announcement this afternoon that NYU is suspending all non-essential international spring break travel due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This announcement follows Student Health Center guidance on COVID-19 and the Centers for Disease Control recommendation that institutes of higher education consider postponing or cancelling study abroad programs.

Steinhardt Global Affairs is committed to your safety as well as academic progress. Please read on for next steps for your specific study abroad program.

Your group will not be traveling to London as originally planned. Steinhardt Global Affairs and your faculty leader are working closely to identify alternate programming to take place during spring break. You will receive a follow-up communication as soon as alternative plans are finalized.

NEXT STEPS:

  • Complete this form by Friday, March 6 to indicate whether you plan to remain in the program or withdraw.
    • Remain. Students who choose to remain in the course will receive an adjusted housing and activity fee will be adjusted via your Bursar Bill to reflect the alternative itinerary.
    • Withdraw from the program. Students who withdraw will receive a refund of the following expenses:
      • Tuition, registration, and services fees assessed via the Bursar. Students will receive no “W” on their transcript.
      • Housing and activity fees, via the Bursar.
  • Flights - Steinhardt Global Affairs will reimburse program flight expenses that cannot be recouped with travel providers. Students should refer to CDC recommendations as evidence of need to cancel. Students should follow this protocol:
    • Contact your travel provider directly to request a refund. Many airlines are modifying their usual cancellation policies in light of COVID-19. Below is a partial list of examples:
    • If you are unable to receive a refund from your travel provider, you may request a reimbursement via this form. The form will request the following:
