The Sony Audio Institute (SAI) Scholarship is available to select undergraduate, masters and advanced certificate students enrolled in NYU Steinhardt’s Music Business or Music Technology programs.
The scholarship is awarded based on financial need and academic merit, with a preference for students interested in a career or research in the audio industry. First-year undergraduate students in their first semester of enrollment at NYU are ineligible to apply.
The Sony Scholars will receive:
- A scholarship award ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for the following semester
- The designation of "Sony Audio Institute Scholar"
- Eligibility to participate in the SAI Student Think Tank
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be an enrolled undergraduate, masters or advanced certificate student in Music Business or Music Technology at NYU Steinhardt
- First-year undergraduate students in their first semester of enrollment at NYU are ineligible, and should plan to apply during their second semester.
- Be in good standing with a minimum 3.50 GPA
- Demonstrate financial need
- Participation in extracurricular activities or music is strongly encouraged
- Scholarship funds will be allocated to the Fall 2026 semester and will be applied to your bursar account
- Prior recipients of this award are not eligible to apply

- Upload one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or professional reference
- Upload a current unofficial NYU transcript or an unofficial copy of your undergraduate transcript if this is your first semester at NYU Steinhardt in a masters or advanced certificate program
Important Dates:
- Application deadline - October 1st for spring awards / March 1st for fall awards
- Award Notification - November 15th for spring awards/April 15th for fall awards
