Feeling stressed out as we move into the last five weeks of the semester? Discover how our bodies and minds respond to stress, which we can use to our advantage in practices that help us de-stress. Come discuss what self care means to you, and find out strategies to incorporate this practice into your daily life, even if you only have a minute to spare!  We’ll conclude with a grounding mindfulness practice.

Conversations of Color: Anti-Asian, Anti-Black: Unpacking the Model Minority Stereotype – November 16, 2017

In academic settings, the notion that certain Asian/Asian American groups are gifted is widespread. Tracing the recent history of the Model Minority Stereotype and linking it to daily interactions in the university, Dr. Hua-Yu Sebastian Cherng will facilitate an interactive discussion of how this seemingly innocuous – or even seemingly positive many argue – trope is premised on other dangerous racial stereotypes.

Want the opportunity to help shape health programs here at NYU? If so, the Health Promotion Office wants to hear from YOU. Come join one (or both) of their focus groups and share your thoughts! Choose between two different groups:

  1. Individual Goal Setting – The purpose of this focus group is to learn about the ways you find support to reach a goal (may it be an academic goal or a personal goal) and the barriers you have in reaching that goal.

  2. Health information in the online landscape – The purpose of this focus group is to hear your ideas, likes, and dislikes about receiving health information online (social media, websites, apps, newsletters, live chat, etc.).
