Justice Zone (formerly Diversity Zone) is a foundational training intended for NYU students, faculty, and staff that functions to facilitate understanding of frequently used concepts such as diversity, equity, and social justice through the lens of race and racism. It takes a deep look into the Cycle of Oppression and the role we all take in its reproduction. Throughout the training, participants will be asked to reflect on their own identities and challenge their daily practices to begin a journey of critical consciousness. Lunch will be served.

Want the opportunity to help shape health programs here at NYU? If so, the Health Promotion Office wants to hear from YOU. Come join one (or both) of their focus groups and share your thoughts! Choose between two different groups:

  1. Individual Goal Setting – The purpose of this focus group is to learn about the ways you find support to reach a goal (may it be an academic goal or a personal goal) and the barriers you have in reaching that goal.

  2. Health information in the online landscape – The purpose of this focus group is to hear your ideas, likes, and dislikes about receiving health information online (social media, websites, apps, newsletters, live chat, etc.).

Disability Zone is a training for NYU students, staff, and faculty that explores frameworks around the intersections of disability status and justice through critical analysis of language and policy, the works of disability justice activists, and group discussion. Participants will reflect on their own practices and gain the knowledge and tools to actively practice solidarity with and create more accessible environments for people with disabilities.

Safe Zone is a campus wide program designed to visibly identify students, staff, and faculty who support the LGBTQ population, understand some of the issues facing LGBTQ individuals, and are aware of various LGBTQ resources. The three hour training session provides a foundation of knowledge needed to be an effective ally to LGBTQ students and those questioning their sexuality and gender identity.

All Steinhardt faculty, administrators, staff, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, of all departments, are invited to participate.
